HÁWAR.help & BERLINALE PRESENT: DISCUSSION PANEL WITH FILM CREATORS ON THE IRAN REVOLUTION

In times of global crises and revolutions, art and culture seem to lose their legitimacy. The reality is so dramatic that every film takes a back seat. Numerous artists in Iran and the diaspora are supporting the revolution in Iran, for “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî” – “Woman, Life, Freedom”, which is having an impact on the entire Near and Middle East. For this, many of them are paying a heavy price: the regime is mercilessly persecuting them. Art has to respond to this.

On Saturday, February 18, at 12:30h, the Internationale Filmfestspiele Berlin in cooperation with HÁWAR.help and HAU Hebbel am Ufer will bring high-caliber Iranian, Kurdish, and Afghan filmmakers into conversation with political decision-makers. Is there a “Jin-Jiyan-Azadî” effect in cinema and the arts? What role do film and art play in resistance movements such as the Iran Revolution?

Welcome adress by Mariëtte Rissenbeek (Managing Director Berlinale), Tezcan Tekkal (Co-Founder HÁWAR.help e.V.) und Annemie Vanackere (Directorship and Managing Director HAU Hebbel am Ufer).
