Our BACK TO SCHOOL project provides Arabic-language schooling for children in several IDP camps in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
Arabic-language schools and the corresponding teachers were not funded by the Kurdistan Region (KRG) or the central government in 2023. However, for the Yazidi pupils who will return to their homeland of Sinjar to go to school or study at university, education in Arabic is essential for them to be able to reconnect in this Arabic-speaking region.
With BACK TO SCHOOL, we paid a total of 71 teachers in two IDP camps in the KRG an expense allowance in 2023, thus securing lessons for over 4,018 pupils and enabling the teachers to earn fair salaries and a living income.
