OUR IRAN-PETITION – FOR A 180° TURNAROUND IN GERMANY’S IRAN POLICY!

We did it, together! The call “Jin – Jiyan – Azadi” (“Woman – Life – Freedom”) from the freedom movement in Iran has reached the German Bundestag. Our HÁWAR.help petition with 11 demands has gathered more than 63,000 signatures!

SUPPORTING THE FREEDOM MOVEMENT IN IRAN WITH CONCRETE POLITICAL ACTION

To support the courageous people in Iran in their fight for freedom and self-determination, we addressed the Bundestag with a petition containing 11 demands – calling for a change in German Iran policy. In Iran, the murder of Jina “Mahsa” Amini by the Iranian morality police was the tipping point: what began as isolated protests has now turned into a revolutionary movement calling for the end of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The authorities are trying to crush this revolution: People are being murdered by the regime in broad daylight. Others are being arrested and imprisoned. They are subjected to sham trials, often without their own lawyer and under the exclusion of the public. On December 8, 2022, the first death sentence for a protester was carried out. His name was Mohsen Shekari. Many more could die if pressure on the regime is not increased and the international community looks away. This must be prevented!

The people fighting for freedom must receive our support. And 63,007 signatures speak volumes: For too long, diplomatic and economic relations have been maintained with a regime that has mercilessly oppressed its civil society for decades.

HÁWAR.help DEMANDS IN LIGHT OF THE CATASTROPHIC SITUATION OF WOMEN’S AND HUMAN RIGHTS IN IRAN:

1.) An immediate halt to deportations of Iranian citizens currently residing in Germany.

2.) Easing of entry requirements for Iranian citizens and facilitating access to residence permits. Gender-based violence and persecution in Iran must also be urgently considered in asylum procedures. Germany is committed to this under the Istanbul Convention.

3.) Freezing of diplomatic relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran and expulsion of ambassadors as a clear sign that Germany sees and strongly condemns the brutal repression of the protest movement in its full scale.

4.) Enhanced protection measures for exiled Iranians by the German Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution.

5.) Measures that directly target the Iranian ruling class: Confiscation of assets and valuables on German territory. Freezing of assets of Iranian individuals and organizations/entities responsible for or facilitating violence against the protesters. This may also include companies based in Germany that are responsible for the Iranian government’s restrictions on internet infrastructure.

6.) No more political cooperation with lobbyists of the Iranian regime.

7.) A sanctions policy that does not affect the civilian population in Iran.

8.) Suspension of nuclear negotiations.

9.) The Iranian civil society and exiled Iranians must be involved in the processes regarding the political dealings with Iran, particularly with regard to women and members of minorities (ethnic-religious groups, members of the LGBTIQ+ community, and any other discriminated groups).

10.) The Federal Republic must immediately call for the documentation of human and women’s rights violations by UN organizations, mandate holders, and other independent international organizations and contribute to its implementation, so that future legal condemnation becomes possible and human and women’s rights violations are fully clarified.

11.) A shift in the German government’s foreign policy towards Iran, focusing on women’s and human rights.

What happened next?At the end of 2022, we presented the petition to the Petitions Committee, which, in the next step, was forwarded to the Bundestag with the highest possible vote from the committee. After the petition was officially approved by the Bundestag, it was forwarded to the federal government, state parliaments, and the European Parliament, all of which have informed us that they are currently discussing the implementation of our demands. The petition is therefore a beacon of hope for all those who feel powerless in these times: Your 63,000 signatures have ensured that the German government, the European Parliament, and the state parliaments must now address our demands!

Now is the time for us to take concrete political steps against the regime to support the courageous people in Iran in their fight for freedom and self-determination and to better protect people in exile in Germany.Because human rights violations continue. In 2023 alone, more than 800 people were executed in the country. And yet deportations to Iran are still taking place, and Germany continues to trade with the Mullah regime. With HÁWAR.help, we will continue to fight!

We would like to thank all the Members of Parliament who are supporting the petition and the people in Iran.
