BRIGHTER FUTURES: SUPPORTING EDUCATORS, STRENGTHENING SCHOOLS

Our project “Enhancing Education in Iraqi Camps by Supporting Educators and Schools” aims to improve the education sector in the Kurdistan Region in Iraq by supporting teachers’ livelihoods and equipping schools with necessary resources. The project boosts the income of the volunteer teachers in one camp school in each Qadia and Sharya by providing them with a monthly salary, and enhances the learning experience for students by equipping schools with essential educational tools. These range from equipment for teachers such as laptops, paper, printers to equipment for students and classrooms such as sports equipment, models for science subjects, maps for geography classes, craft materials and heating devices for the cold winters in Kurdistan.

Due to the current financial instability of the education sector and the irregularity of payment, the educational field in Arabic schools is facing financial and structural damage which is acutely affecting staff retention. Thus, this project contributes to teacher retention by enabling teachers to practice their career while continuing to be paid for it. This, next to better equipment and tools given to schools as part of the project, will have a direct impact on the quality of learning and education, creating lasting change for the schools, students and wider community the project serves.
