SCORING GIRLS* GERMANY

SCORING GIRLS* Germany is a nonprofit, open, and free program for girls ages 8 to 18 that uses soccer as a starting point to empower them and promote social inclusion and equal opportunity. We see ourselves as an open, inclusive network that supports girls in their personal development and empowers them to actively participate in society. SCORING GIRLS* Germany is currently active in Cologne, Berlin, and Munich.

Target Group

Our target group is girls between the ages of 8 and 18, with or without immigrant backgrounds and/or from marginalized communities. Every girl is welcome to participate. Many of our participants experience intersectional discrimination based on gender, ethnic or religious identity, and/or socioeconomic background. As a result, they often face social barriers, including limited access to opportunities for participation in society – such as recreational and sports programs.

Educational Approach

Empowerment-based education focuses on supporting individuals in gaining the tools and conditions they need to empower themselves – whether through specific resources or by creating an environment that enables growth. At SCORING GIRLS*, we follow this approach by intentionally strengthening life and social skills in five key areas of personal development: self-efficacy, teamwork, body positivity, resilience, and social participation. We work closely with schools, sports clubs, and local partners to create sustainable access to education, sports, and community.

Project Activities

Soccer Training

Weekly soccer training sessions lasting around two hours take place at all project locations. Each session is led by a qualified soccer coach and a trained educator. The format combines soccer practice — including training exercises and a final match — with educational games and activities designed to build social and life skills.

Socio-Educational Support

We offer individualized support to help participants navigate everyday challenges, including:

  • Issues related to school, residency status, or career planning
  • Family conflicts, body image concerns, or emotional stress
  • Referrals to psychosocial counseling services, doctors, or career advisors
  • Help connecting with local sports clubs and applying for membership fee coverage

Our socio-educational support is tailored to the needs of each girl. By being referred to other institutions, participants also become familiar with support systems in their community and meet people they can turn to for help.

Experiential & Learning Activities

Many of the girls we work with come from family situations where leisure activities such as going to the movies or joining school excursions aren’t always possible. To help close this gap, we regularly offer shared recreational experiences. These moments foster a sense of belonging and allow the girls* to participate in cultural and social life.

We also promote civic awareness and personal agency through workshops on topics such as democracy, and other relevant subjects. These are paired with role model talks: open conversations with inspiring figures who share their stories and journeys.

In addition, participants are encouraged to share their own experiences, whether in a safe space, on stage, or in front of the camera. They are empowered to engage in social dialogue and make their lived realities visible. This not only strengthens their voice in society, but also allows them to become role models for other girls*.

TESTIMONIALS

Anne Will, Fernsehmoderatorin und SCORING GIRLS*-Schirmherrin

    SG* Schirmherrin Anne Will

    Katharina, SCORING GIRLS*-Trainerin
