LEARN to ImpACT

International conflicts, environmental destruction, poverty – all these threatening issues make it easy for the feeling to set in that the more information I have, the more it seems that I can’t make a difference. The Germany-wide project LEARN to ImpACT confronts this feeling of powerlessness by empowering high school students to become actively involved in social, environmental, and political issues. In doing so, we support young people in their search for their role in society and our globalized world.

FOCUS AREAS

  • VIOLENCE AND WAR

This topic deals with the causes and consequences of armed conflicts. The genocide of the Yazidis by the so-called Islamic State in 2014 serves as a case study, offering young people insights into an acute political emergency. We also look at the situation in the IDP camps, sexualized violence as a weapon of war, prospects for return, and the role of Germany and other countries in this conflict.
  • POVERTY AND GLOBAL INEQUALITY

The gap between the poorest and richest countries has been widening for years. The UN Sustainable Development Goals include ending poverty in all forms and all over the globe by 2030. Young people critically examine issues of social justice in the globalized world, and understand global interrelationships and their influence on them, developing creative ideas for solutions to complex challenges.
  • CLIMATE CHANGE AND REFUGEES - AS OF SEPTEMBER '22

The climate crisis affects people around the world - yet not all to the same extent. Countries in the global South are more affected by global warming than we are in Germany. Already, more and more people are forced to flee their homes. Together with the students, we develop possibilities for action, and how they can get involved in their own community.
